Isaiah 61:11 ESV

For as the earth brings forth its sprouts,

and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up,

so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise

to sprout up before all the nations.

Becoming is a life journey for the Christian, the process of spiritual growth and transformation bringing us to the person we were meant to be. It’s like a young girl who stands facing a silent body of water with a mountain range looming beyond, as in Jennifer Bunge’s painting, “Becoming.” Is the girl looking at her future? What lies ahead? These are universal questions, and with Jesus at the helm, becoming is a daily experience as He leads and empowers us through the joys and trials of our lives. Becoming who God created us to be in fullness and glory means breaking from our human wills in exchange for His perfect will. Melissa Pape’s painting calls this, “Beautifully Broken.” There is always tension between what is andwhat is just out of reach, but becoming is more than reaching, it’s traveling into who we are inside; it’s freedom, as Sandra Ceas’s painting, “Breaking Free,” illustrates. Becoming takes us from the bondage of the past to shift forward into God’s firm guiding and empowering embrace. The artwork in this exhibition opens the opportunity to look inside ourselves and share the adventure and excitement of standing in our faith though the process of our life’s calling to at last “become.”
